From Passion to Profession: My Journey Through Archery

By Maren Sanders

I began shooting archery when I was nine years old, inspired by my older sister who was already involved in the sport. It looked like fun, and I was eager to try it for myself. For the next nine years, I participated in 4-H archery, which laid the foundation for what would become a lasting passion.

When I started exploring college options, I discovered that archery could be pursued at the collegiate level. Although I didn’t fully understand what that would entail at the time, the idea of competing as part of a college team quickly became my new goal.

In October 2022, during my freshman year of college, I began working at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center (NEYAC). It was there that my love for archery deepened in ways I hadn’t expected. NEYAC became a home away from home—a place where I not only grew as an archer but also gained valuable insight into the behind-the-scenes aspects of the sport, from organizing tournaments to managing event logistics.

Working at NEYAC also connected me to the broader archery community and introduced me to people who share the same passion. I started as a part-time staff member and stayed in that role until I graduated in May 2025. Following graduation, I transitioned into a summer internship focused on archery and accounting, further developing both my technical and professional skills.

Archery has shaped much of who I am today—from sparking my early curiosity to guiding my educational and career path. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.
